In the Biographical Index of South Australians, Horace Rose’s occupations were recorded as being “storekeeper, homœopath, baker”, having lived at Kapunda, Quorn, Port Lincoln and Unley.
 

Mr Rose was born on 10 November 1844, and although his date of arrival from England was given as 21 February 1856, he did not appear in the early editions of the South Australian Directory. In The Commercial and Trades Directory of South Australia 1882-3, he was listed as a storekeeper at Port Lincoln.
